I. Magic Wand&Tolerance Setting
Tolearnce Setting: How many shades of brightness the Magic Wand includes in a selection.

Example: Leavs on the floor:
1. Ctrl +1, 2, 3 to open the individual channel, (open the red)
2. Tolerance=40
3. Ctrl + ~ to return to the composite view

Additional Controls:
1. Anti-aliased on
2.Contiguous (only the same tonal areas that are directly connected to the point you click)

II.Magnetic Lasso Tools
For selecting image elements that are very similar to their environments and for which the Magic Wand would have difficulty.

Setting:
Width: How far from its center to detect an image edge. Lower setting (1-40px) when the area you need to select is close to the areas you don't need to select.

Edge Contrast: Higher settings (30%more) to select the object that are well defined from the background.

Tips:
1. Select magnectic lasso tools, then press Caps ock to see the the width setting.
2. While selecting, press the right "]" to increase width setting by 1 pixle.
3. Shift + ] to increase the Edge to the maximum of 40, shift + [ to the minimum.
3. [Alt-click] to access standard lasso tool
4. BACKSPCE + DELETE to delete the anchor point you don't like

Frquency: How many nchor points the magnetic lasso tool lays down.

III. Quick Mask:
Starting with the initial selection, refine the selection with quick mask.

Tips:
1. Use small paint brush to dab over the specs .
2. Dust & Scratch filter to remove the small very quickly.
Filter>noise>Dust& Scratches
Move the Radius up till dust specs disappear. (Using as low as radius as possible in case the
edge quality of the selection is not soften too much)

III. Selection Menu-Color Range

I got a assignment from class: create a typographic poster using at most two colors and only font! Make your font speak for you!

I spent 4 hours to come up a draft of "TRUTH" . The meaning I want say under that was: " the truth is something not obvious, it's inside other things"

Then I got a chance to talk with instructor, he made me to clarify my idea by asking me question. Then I came up my statement: "You must find your own truth"

Some questions in the brainstorming:
"Finding" -Google, manify glass, bible, church, love
"what is the truth of college student?"
"What is the truth of sport people?"
"What is the truth of chef?"

Idea 1: Show the truth in TYPE"

Idea 2: "Focus" idea. You decided what you want to see, that's your truth.

(Showing the truth, or have the reader to find the truth trough the type)

He gave me another good statement about working in graphic design: You have to be more patient to live in "uncertainty". People don't like "uncertainty" , but as a designer, you have to experience the "unknowning" before "knowing" comes to you.

Notes:

Maximum and Minimum Are useful for modifying masks. The Maximum filter has the effect of applying a choke—spreading out white areas and choking in black areas. The Minimum filter has the effect of applying a spread—spreading out black areas and shrinking white areas. Like the Median filter, the Maximum and Minimum filters look at individual pixels in a selection. Within a specified radius, the Maximum and Minimum filters replace the current pixel’s brightness value with the highest or lowest brightness value of the surrounding pixels.

Color Dodge Looks at the color information in each channel and brightens the base color to reflect the blend color by decreasing the contrast. Blending with black produces no change.

Invert
The Invert command inverts the colors in an image. You can use this command as part of the process of making an edge mask to apply sharpening and other adjustments to selected areas of an image.

Note: Because color print film contains an orange mask in its base, the Invert command cannot make accurate positive images from scanned color negatives. Be sure to use the proper settings for color negatives when scanning film.

When you invert an image, the brightness value of each pixel in the channels is converted to the inverse value on the 256-step color-values scale. For example, a pixel in a positive image with a value of 255 is changed to 0, and a pixel with a value of 5 is changed to 250.
